IPv6 is the smallest and very latest version of IP. IPv6 is mainly 128-bit. It was developed by the Internet Engineering Task Force in 1995. The basic objective of developing it is to overcome the deficiency of IPv4. It was developed to meet the requirement of maximum IP addresses. This will prove to be very helpful in the coming future because friends, the use of internet is increasing day by day and the need for IP address will also increase. It includes a maximum of 340 trillion unique IP addresses.
What is the difference between IPv4 and IPv6?
Some differences between IPv4 and IPv6 are as follows-
• 32 bits are used in IPv4 while 128 bits are used in IPv6.
• In IPv4, only number and Dot are used, whereas in IPv6, Number, Hexadecimal Number and Colon are used.
• There is no such thing as security in IPv4, whereas if we talk about IPv6, then IPsec is supported in security.
• IPv4 uses Class D for multicast, whereas IPv6 uses a dedicated multicast address range.
• IPv4 can generate only 4 billion unique addresses while IPv6 can generate maximum 340 trillion unique addresses.
• IPv4 is capable of providing 12 header fields while IPv6 provides only 8 header fields.
• Checksum field is available in IPv4 but on the contrary, checksum field is not available in IPv6.
